How many embellishments does it take to make an interesting tango?

In the conversation of tango, there are moments that lend themselves nicely to interjecting 'punctuation marks". embellishments in appropriate places can add interest and variety. However they are not the language/dance itself.

Timing, control and technique are the keys to successful adornments. They must not interfere with the underlying conversation. Whether added by the lead or follow, they can add interest and allow for rhythmic interpretations or they can cause temporary caos.  Many embellishments are not led and can be skillfully interspersed without the knowledge or interruption of our partner.

The operative words are safe, appropriate, well timed and not overdone!
